No under 3 year old to be painted or tattooed. This is due to industry standards, manufacturers guidelines and insurance. (See separate policy for details).
Chunky/festival glitter will not be used on under 8 year old, due to a danger of being rubbed into the eyes causing irritation, but can also cause blindness.
Glitter tattoos will not be put on the face of children, this is due to them staying on the skin for 4 to 5 days, also acting as a sun block. Adults will be given information and the decision will be left to the individual if they wish to proceed.
Any person who has obvious open wounds, contagious illnesses such as Chicken Pox or Measles, colds or other viruses. Skin conditions such as eczema (if severe and no area on arm or face is eczema free).

Awareness of other stalls, people or environment that may affect the health and safety of customer, kit, equipment, staff and Face Painting and Glitter Tattoos by Sarah.
No Under 3’s Policy
Face Painting and Glitter Tattoos by Sarah will not paint or glitter tattoo under 3 years old. However, a small painted design on the back of the hand maybe offered if the child is a couple of months off 3 years old, this will be left to the discretion of Face Painting and Glitter Tattoos by Sarah.
Reasons for not painting or glitter tattooing under 3 years old.
- The products are not tested on under 3 by the manufacturers.
- Under 3-year-oldare unlikely to sit still or understand what is going on. Which may frighten them or move which becomes a hazard when painting them.
- Glitter Tattoos when removed are like removing a plaster. Younger children tend not to like that feeling.
- Their immune system is still being built up, and their skin is thinner and prone to allergies.
- It is the professional face painting industry standard that under 3 years are not painted.
- My insurance will not cover me.
The child may have had their face painted before by another painter. This does not mean that I can paint them. I use different products, which are professional, EU and FDA approved and I am responsible for my business and reputation. I want to make a positive and enjoyable experience for each child. Not a negative, frightening experience where they will not have their face painted again.

DBS Request
You have asked me to provide a DBS. I do not hold a current DBS and unable to provide a DBS, as a self employed person andas an entertainer (face painter) due to the following reasons.
According to Ofsted, the Government and DBS regulations.
- As an entertainer who is not in a contract of employment with your Company/Charity but has a contract to provide a service, I do not need a DBS.
- I should never be left alone with any children or vulnerable adults. Parents/Guardians or a staff member should be in attendance.
- No organisation can ask for me to provide a DBS as it is illegal to ask for a person’s personal information if the organisation is not offering a contract of employment/volunteering for a job that involves unsupervised access to children/vulnerable adults.
- As a ‘visitor’, Ofsted also states that I do not require a DBS as I would not be left unsupervised. My visits are usually 1 to 5 hours one day a year or a couple of times a year, depending on your bookings.
- As a self-employed person, I am not allowed to perform a DBS upon myself.
It is a condition of your booking with me that I am not left in sole charge of children or vulnerable adults as required by law. This is the responsibility of the parents/guardians or employees of your Company/Charity.
